Rob is a partner and Chief Operating Officer of Premier Circulation Services (PCS). He is a proven leader in both the newspaper publishing industry and in sales and marketing. He brings a keen understanding of the challenges facing circulation executives and a winning track record of creating and implementing sales, acquisition, and marketing strategies that provide quick and sustained growth.
Before joining Carman as part-owner of PCS, Rob was a client. He spent 23 years in the circulation department of Capital Gazette newspapers, the last 10 as circulation director. He served over 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Interstate Circulation Managers Association (ISCMA), which is where he met Carman. Rob’s newspaper worked with Carman’s former company, and was one of PCS’ first customers when Carman founded the company.
Rob has been a featured speaker at newspaper conferences all over the country, speaking on numerous topics, including Marketing, Customer Service, Leadership, Sales and Acquisition and many more. In addition to his long experience as a circulation executive, one of Rob’s first jobs as a teenager was telemarketing for the Washington Times. Later, he worked for several telemarketing operations while he attended Towson State University, where he earned a B.A. in Journalism and Communication Studies. He sold everything from newspaper and magazine subscriptions to home improvements, and even telemarketed for the Red Cross.
Not only has Rob actually “worked the phones,” but he also supervised the in-house telemarketing operation at Capital-Gazette for 7 years before outsourcing his company’s telemarketing. He had the good fortune of choosing to outsource to his good friend and colleague Carman, and the rest (as they say) is history. Rob has believed in PCS since it’s inception, and eagerly agreed to join Carman as a partner after he left Capital Gazette in May of 2015.
